Dentures and Dental Services in Indiana

What Are Dentures and Why Should You Consider Them?

Dentures are detachable sets of false teeth that help restore your health and smile. When you lose your teeth, your dental and physical health suffers and your confidence falters. Your jawbone actually needs the day-to-day pressure of biting and chewing to stay strong and healthy. Replacing your teeth with dentures helps maintain your health and prevents facial sagging.

Are There Different Types of Dentures?

Yes, there are dozens of options when it comes to dentures. First, you’ll work with your dentist to determine whether you need a full denture or a partial. Full dentures replace all of your teeth on either your upper or lower jaw. Partials replace only a few missing teeth on either jaw. Both types are removable for easy cleaning and storage, and both are affordable quality dentures.

Full

Most full dentures are available in a variety of materials and customization. Teeth in this type of denture can be made of porcelain or acrylic resin, although acrylic resin is more common today. In some cases, you may prefer a conventional denture that attaches with adhesive or an implant-supported denture that attaches to dental implants.

Partial

Partials are similarly diverse. Although you may be a candidate for implant-supported partials, conventional partials are more popular. Conventional partials use clasps to hook around adjacent healthy teeth for stability. This clasp-style is available in may compositions, including a traditional metal base. Flexible partial dentures are now also available, using a pliant material that conforms to your mouth as you chew and talk.

What Are All-on-Four Dentures?

One of the most popular dentures in Indiana is the All-on-Four style. This type of denture attaches to four titanium dental posts implanted into your gums. Many denture wearers prefer this style because it offers excellent stability and security.

What Are the Costs Associated with Dentures?

Affordable quality dentures are readily available, but actual costs vary depending on your pre-treatment needs and the type and composition of the denture you’ve chosen. Compared to many alternatives, dentures cost much less and provide equal if not better function. You can review all of your options and their prices with one of our dentists, so give us a call to set up a consultation.

How Does Getting Dentures Work?

Your dentist will assess your dental and oral health and make recommendations to you based on that assessment. If you need a full denture, you may need to have remaining teeth extracted. You’ll then use a temporary denture until your gums have healed. For implant-supported sets, you may also need jawbone augmentation to make your bone more dense and secure. If you’re preparing for a partial, crowns may need to be placed on adjacent teeth to ensure the clasp fits more securely.

After you’ve healed from pre-treatment, your dentist will make an impression of your mouth and take measurements. You’ll return to the office to try on preliminary wax samples. Once you’ve found a sample that fits you best, your denture will be made. Your dentist will make any necessary final adjustments in the office during denture delivery.

What Is a Soft Denture Reline?

Occasionally, your denture may start to feel uncomfortable. A soft reline may be your best solution, adding extra cushion and a better fit with an injection of liquid polymer directly into the denture.
