Damaged or missing teeth, whether due to trauma or decay, can adversely impact your self-confidence as well as your physical and oral health. If you have one or more missing or damaged teeth, then restorative dentistry can help you regain both the function and the aesthetics of your teeth. We work closely with our patients to provide quality services for restorative dentistry procedures, so call us for an appointment if you have one or more missing or damaged teeth.

Are Tooth Fillings Necessary?

A tooth filling can repair a damaged tooth and protect it from further damage. So yes, tooth fillings are necessary to maintain your good oral health. When you come to our Munster office for a tooth filling, your dentist will remove the damaged area and clean it, then we’ll fill the tooth with an amalgam, gold, porcelain or another appropriate material. Your dentist will recommend the best type of filling because not all fillings are suitable for all types of teeth.

Are Tooth Bridges and Crowns Necessary?

Dental bridges and tooth crowns are permanently installed prosthetic devices that restore aesthetics and function to teeth, and they are affixed in place using high-bond adhesive. Crowns are also referred to as dental caps because they cap the entire tooth. A bridge is a row of pontic teeth with a crown at each end. The crown is affixed to abutment teeth, but if an abutment tooth isn’t available, then an implant will suffice. A cantilever bridge is used when there is no abutment tooth on one end, but it’s not recommended for rear teeth.

Does Every Dentist Provide Restorative Dentistry?

All general dentists can provide restorative dentistry; however, that doesn’t mean that all actively provide that service. If you need fillings, bridges or crowns for teeth, then call us for an appointment.

How Much Will I Pay for Restorative Dentistry?

Each dental procedure is unique to the patient and is influenced by the type and location of the work to be done, any additional work that’s needed, the materials that are used, and any available insurance benefits. We’ll provide you with an estimate of your tooth filling cost, dental crown cost or dental bridge cost, so you’ll know what to expect. If you need restorative dentistry but can’t afford it, then we’ll work with you so that you can afford the treatments you need. We accept most insurance plans and we can provide flexible financing and payment options, so call us for more information or to schedule an appointment.

What Are My Options for Dental Fillings?

We have several options for tooth fillings, but our most popular are gold, tooth-colored composite, porcelain or amalgam. Since not all types of fillings are suitable for all types of teeth, your dentist will recommend the best type for your cavity.

What Are My Options for Dental Crowns?

Like fillings, crowns are available in several materials. Usually, ceramic is used for front teeth and gold or amalgam for the rear teeth, but ask your dentist about other options that are available to you, like porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns.

What Are My Options for Tooth Bridges?

We have several options available for bridges, but traditional bridges and cantilever bridges are those most commonly used. A traditional bridge is comprised of a set of pontic teeth that have a crown at either end. The crown is permanently affixed to abutment teeth, which anchors the bridge in place. If an abutment tooth isn’t available, then implants can be used. A cantilever bridge is used when an abutment tooth isn’t available, but cantilever bridges aren’t recommended for molars.

When I Get a Tooth Crown, What Will Happen?

When you come to our Munster office to have a tooth crown installed, you’ll need two office appointments and three procedures. During the first appointment, your dentist will shape and prep the affected tooth, and then we’ll take an impression of it, which will be used to fabricate both the temporary and the permanent crown. We’ll install the temporary before you leave, and when we receive the permanent crown, you’ll return to our office to have it installed. We’ll adjust it so that it fits properly and is comfortable, and then we’ll install it using a high-bond cement. If you need a crown in Munster, then call us for an appointment. Each procedure will require between 30 and 60 minutes.

When I Get a Tooth Bridge, What Will Happen?

When you have a tooth bridge installed in our office, you’ll need two appointments. During your first appointment, your dentist will prep the abutment teeth and then take impressions of the area. The impressions will be used as the mold for your temporary until your permanent bridges. We’ll install the temporary before you leave, and when the permanent bridge arrives, you’ll return to the office. We’ll adjust the permanent bridge for optimal fit and comfort, and then we’ll secure it using a high-bond cement.
